Migraines & Tension Headaches

Migraine is a common condition affecting one in five women and around one in 15 men. The exact cause is unknown, however they are thought to be the result of changes in the chemicals in the blood vessels in the brain. Some people also have known triggers including stress, tiredness or certain foods or drinks.

Although there is currently no known cure, there are a number of different medications available to help reduce the symptoms and prevent further migraine attacks. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, exercising regularly, eating regular meals, staying hydrated and limiting your alcohol intake can all help to reduce the frequency of migraine attacks. Where stress or anxiety may be the cause, hypnotherapy, self hypnosis and mindfulness may be helpful in reducing the number and frequency of migraines or tension headaches.
