Often described as a severe headache with a throbbing pain on one side of the head, Migraine is a common condition affecting one in five women and around one in 15 men.
The exact cause of migraines is unknown, however they are thought to be the result of changes in the chemicals and blood vessels in the brain. Some people have known triggers including stress, tiredness or certain foods or drinks.
Migraines & Headaches
Although there is currently no known cure, there are a number of different medications available to help reduce the symptoms and prevent further migraine attacks. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, exercising regularly, eating regular meals, staying hydrated and limiting your alcohol intake can all help to reduce the frequency of migraine attacks. Where stress or anxiety may be the cause, hypnotherapy, self hypnosis and mindfulness may be able help to reduce the number and frequency of migraines or tension headaches.
The most effective therapy for you depends on your individual situation. Many people have found hypnotherapy helpful for migraines and tension headaches. Using a combination of hypnosis and therapy, stress management and anxiety release techniques can be taught, which will enable you to feel calmer and more in control, whilst reducing some of the emotional stress which may be contributing to or causing your migraines. Regular self hypnosis practise may also be helpful in reducing migraine attacks.
What to expect
The first step is to book an initial consultation. This is an opportunity for us to meet and discuss your situation in more detail as well as answering any questions you may have and deciding on the best options for you. We will also do some hypnosis, if appropriate, to introduce you to hypnotherapy and help you prepare for future sessions. Many people find between 4 to 6 hypnotherapy sessions helpful for migraines and tension headaches and occasionally further sessions may be required.
Migraines and other types of headaches can only be diagnosed by a medical professional. If you have any doubts or concerns about your symptoms, you must see your doctor. You will need a confirmed diagnosis of Migraine or Tension Headache from your doctor before starting any hypnotherapy sessions.
