Often described as a moderate or severe headache, with a throbbing pain on one side of the head, Migraine is a common condition affecting one in five women and around one in 15 men
The exact cause of migraines is unknown, however they are thought to be the result of changes in the chemicals and blood vessels in the brain. Some people have known triggers including stress, tiredness or certain foods and drinks.

Although there is currently no known cure, there are a number of different medications available to help reduce the symptoms and prevent further migraine attacks. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, getting plenty of exercise, eating regular meals, staying hydrated and limiting your alcohol intake can all help to reduce the frequency of migraine attacks. Where stress or anxiety may be the cause, hypnotherapy, self hypnosis and mindfulness may be able help to reduce the number and frequency of migraines or tension headaches.
The most effective therapy for you depends on your individual situation. Some people find a combination of medication, hypnotherapy and regular self hypnosis practise can be helpful for reducing or managing the symptoms of migraines or tension headache. By using relaxation, visualisation and hypnosis to teach stress release and pain control techniques, hypnotherapy and mindfulness can help you to manage stress, increase confidence and regain some control over some of your migraine symptoms.
What to expect
Your initial consultation is an opportunity for us to meet and discuss your situation in more detail as well as answering any questions you may have and deciding on the best options for you. Many people find between 4 to 6 hypnotherapy sessions helpful for migraines or tension headaches, however everyone responds to therapy differently and so the number of sessions required will vary from person to person. Your motivation and participation play a key part in your therapy process too.
